The All-Atlantic Ocean Research Forum 2022
In conjunction to the Scientific Event in Brazil the Side Event
Harnessing Marine Microbiomes & Biotechnology for a Changing World
was held on June 3, 2022, 14:00-17:00 UTC
Information on the outcome of the Side Event will be published soon
Outcomes from the Scientific Event will be highlighted at the Ministerial Event in Washington, D.C. in July, which will be in person and streamed live. The event will feature ministerial interventions and roundtable discussions, as well as the signing of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research & Innovation Alliance Declaration. The main ministerial event will also be accompanied by side events hosted at several Embassies.

Marine Microbiome
We are on the threshold of a new and exciting era of discovery in the oceans
that will shape the development of human endeavours for decades to come.
Within the scope of the AANChOR project and the All Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance, and following the previous capacity building & network events held by the Joint Pilot Action All-Atlantic Marine Biotechnology Initiative (AA-BIOTECMAR), on the 27th and 28th of June (from 10:00 to 13:00 BRT) the All-Atlantic Aquaculture & Marine Biotechnology Startup Accelerator Workshop will be hosted by AA-BIOTECMAR. Did you know?
-
The Ocean produces at least 50% of the planet´s oxygen (with the help of marine microbiome)
-
Oceans absorb about 30% of carbon dioxide produced by humans, buffering the impacts of global warming.

Three Thematic Pillars
... all supported with underlaying cross-cutting elements

Environment and Climate
The marine microbiome will be at the heart of understanding ocean ecosystems and the sustainability of the services they provide to society
Food Value Chain
The marine microbiome will be key to securing and facilitating sustainable production of food from our oceans

Biodiscovery
The marine microbiome will propel biodiscovery, providing new sources of value to society
Cross-Cutting Challenges
Addressing cross-cutting challenges will unlock the potential for a microbiome-based blue economy, leading to high quality food products, biological discoveries, and healthy marine ecosystems
